Global Green,
Holy Cross
Holy Cross, in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, was ground zero for post Hurricane Katrina planning and rebuilding efforts. A juried competition, sponsored by Global Green USA, resulted in the design of five single family houses, an 18-unit apartment building, and a community center. The construction of the winning entry, created by Workshop APD of New York, was overseen by Wink in his role as Project Architect with Williams Architects. The original design, whose intent was to combine sustainability (LEED Platinum), affordability, and replicability, was refined as the project progressed and resulted in an initial house showcasing many sustainable features (geothermal heat pump, green roof, continuous rain screen envelope). These features helped designers of the five remaining houses to balance affordability with sustainability. The apartment building was designed, but not built, and the community center finished at a later date.
Completion: 2009
